NOTE: yola.com does not have a blog format option. Thus, I will be moving hosts shortly, and will notify the Japanese professors of this transition.

Friends and classmates: because Yola does not support a blog format, there is also not a comment section D: The following link is simply a shared google document. Please leave comments for tomorrow's assignment here for the time being, as I move my entire blog space to a site that better supports the blog format! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ojpJPFo4MkYrmgYFXFyjtubGrGjf4zTofcyoymQbb3c/edit?usp=sharing

おはよお/こんにちは/こんばんは-- Hello! 私の名前は Jessica (ライト)です; 2年生です。どおぞよろしく!

I'm a potential WWS major with a certificate in Eastern Asian studies and aspirations to work between the US, China, the Koreas, and Japan in the future. I have a passion for learning new languages, believing that communication in a region's native tongue is the key to more deeply understanding the people and culture of the area. So, learning a language (in this case, Japanese) is not only driven by career goals, but even more so by personal interests.

My hobbies include learning languages and dreaming about world travel (I've been out of the country once, this summer, for the Princeton in Beijing Chinese-language immersion program). I have a working knowledge of Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and French; the former two of which will hopefully make learning Japanese less tedious, and none of which I can claim complete proficiency in. Other hobbies of mine include watching foreign films, cooking, eating, and sleeping - generally in that order, too.

Speaking honestly, it was never my intention to learn Japanese - at least, not this year. I originally intended to wait an additional 2 years, self-studying in the meantime, saving formal JPN-courses for senior year. In fact, I was enrolled in second-year Korean up until 3 days ago. But, plans changed (as they tend to do), and here I am, taking Japanese in the hopes of a semester study abroad at 東大 next Fall.

Finally, as fair warning and a disclaimer, I've never kept a blog (I lack to willpower to even write in a daily agenda, so . . . challenge accepted?). To my classmates, best of luck, and I look forward to getting to know you both in class and online!
